Doune Castle, Scotland

A few photos taken at Doune Castle, Scotland on Sunday, 29 August 2016.

Doune is a popular filming location and has featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones and Outlander. We were able to listen to Actor/director Terry Jones as he narrated an audio tour that revealed Doune’s exciting history and tales from the Holy Grail film set.

This is a 14th century courtyard castle in Doune, with a striking 100 ft high gatehouse and apparently one of the best preserved great halls in Scotland. It was built for the Regent Albany. The striking keep-gatehouse combines domestic quarters including the splendid Lord’s Hall with its carved oak screen, musicians’ gallery and double fireplace.
